Last week Microsoft announced a change in licensing terms for Microsoft Security Essentials that allows small businesses with less than 10 PC’s to use Microsoft’s security software for free. Microsoft Security Essentials is trusted by over 30 million Microsoft customers including 5 of my PC’s running Windows 7. So if you’re running Norton or Symantec and your license is set to expire don’t spend a penny more on subscription services when you can get free malware protection from Microsoft.
If you’re concerned about performance and security from a free product vs. a paid subscription from Norton or Symantec, you’d be surprised to find out that Microsoft’s security product ranked higher than both these options in performance and security.
What are you waiting for? Head on over to the Microsoft website and download Microsoft Security Essentials for free. If you are using more than 10 computers, Microsoft recommends using the Forefront line of security products. I also recommend you check out Microsoft’s SMB Community blog for information specific to small business owners.
