You may be wondering, why you would ever pause an app from installing on your iPad, but believe it or not there are several good reasons. Most apps are less than 20MB in size, but if you ever want to download a game like Infinity Blade or Civilization for your iPad, you will quickly find that the app will span several hundred megabytes. Of course this isn’t a problem because you’re most likely on Wi-Fi, but what if you’re trying to watch a movie on Netflix or trying to conserve your bandwidth at home for something else? This is where pausing an App install makes sense.
Pausing an app install also makes sense when you’re updating multiple apps and would like to prioritize one or two apps to download first while the others wait. It’s an option we have as iPad owners that we should know about. Check out the instructions below to learn how to pause application downloads/installs on your iPad.
Software/Hardware used: iPad running iOS 4.2.
1. Once the iPad begins downloading and installing the App you selected, you will have the option to tap on the new application icon to pause the download or installation. Notice how the new app icon has a small blue progress bar and the name of the app is Loading…
2. When you pause and app installation you will notice that blue status bar becomes empty and Loading changes to Paused. When you are ready to continue the installation of the application simply tap on the app you paused and the application will continue to download and install.
