AVG, the Anti-virus experts are now expanding their realm of software one step further by expanding into the cloud storage market.  AVG will now offer up to 5GB free online backup on their new platform called LiveKive. Those who need more space can upgrade to 25GB for $49.99 per year and unlimited storage for $79.99 per year. LiveKive offers automatic backup, free file sharing, file and folder syncs and data encryption.

Here’s a short little video about the new AVG LiveKive:

AVG is by no means the first company to offer free cloud storage for its users. Companies like Dropbox, Box.net and even Amazon are already one step ahead of them.  Amazon just recently released up to 5GB free storage, giving users 20GB free if they purchase an album from them, with also a similar $50 plan for 50GB of storage. Dropbox also offers 50GB of storage for $9.99/month with 8GB free additional storage from referrals.

You have a bunch of options in addition to the new LiveKive cloud storage service, so do some research before you start transferring your data and sharing it with others.
