Believe it or not the United States is listed as a country that has banned social networking sites, however the bans in the United States are mostly at Federal facilities and schools. In other countries, like in Vietnam some of the sites are banned entirely from the general population and for political reasons.
On Vietnam banning Facebook, “Facebook was banned along with number of other sites by the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security for security reasons and to curb any opposition expressed against the Party and the government. Users had turned to Facebook as an alternative to Yahoo! 360 after it was shut down. Angered and in response to the ban, most users illegally tried to bypass the block with proxies and workarounds…â€
